On Tuesday September 29, 2015, renowned go-go artists Sweet Cherie, Shannon Browne, and Kato Hammond talked with students in Mr. Yarborough’s jazz class at Duke Ellington High School of the Performing Arts (DCPS) as part of an initiative called “Teach the Beat: Go-Go Goes to School: Artists and Scholars in the Classroom.” The goal is to infuse D.C.’s rich and unique tradition of go-go in the curriculum. The initiative is coordinated by Teaching for Change, in partnership with DCPS, and with funding from the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities (DCCAH).
