Go-Go Symphony – An Intersection Where We Can Feel It All Over
In the 1976 hit “Sir Duke”, the very first words that Stevie Wonder says are, “Music is a world within itself with a language we all understand. With an equal opportunity for all to sing, dance and clap their hands.”
Fast forward 38 years, and we find that those very same music principles still apply in life today. In fact, this coming Friday February 21, a prime example of that will take place. The Capital City Symphony’s Go-Go Symphony, which is a full symphony orchestra that performs action packed party music over a Washington DC Go-Go beat, will be showcased live during the opening night of INTERSECTIONS. A evening of musical presentations that takes place at Washington DC’s Atlas Performing Arts Center.

The collective community of citizens that make up of DC M.U.S.I.C. have got a message for the people, and have decided to deliver it through the platform that speaks to us all on a level that we all can equally understand — Music!
Because at the end of the day, when it comes to the policies and procedures that effect an entire culture of people, it’s not just about coming together in times of any particular crisis. It’s about staying unified forever after!

Local Radio’s Lack of Support to Go-Go Artists and their Music
We are almost halfway there and have only 5 days left to reach our goal!
Many times we hear people’s frustrations regarding the lack of support and understanding that the local radio stations give to the Go-Go artists and their music. There have been so much great original and quality material released over the years, yet because of the lack of exposure of it, many aren’t even aware of it. So, in their minds, they believe that nothing original comes from it. This is one of the reasons for the building of the TMOTTGoGo and TMOTTRadio platforms. Because we understand that in order to get things done and heard the way that they’re supposed to be done and heard, we have to place ourselves in the positions to do it. And if we ourselves don’t believe in the impact of it, how in the world can we ever exact anyone outside of the genre to not only be fully aware of it, but also understand it.

Finding The Funk! But Go-Go Not Included?
Last night I sat back and watched VH1’s Rock Docs episode of “Finding The Funk”. The documentary which was presented by Nelson George and Narrated by QuestLove, gave a road trip that touched on areas traveling into the 70s & 80s through the Bay Area to celebrate Sly & the Family Stone, then to Dayton the birthplace of so many of Funk’s originators, then onto Detroit where from the ashes of Motown, P-Funk’s Mothership arose, and then to LA where a new crop of musicians are creating their own Funk history.
They interviewed such legends as Sly Stone, Bootsy Collins, George Clinton, Nona Hendryx, Maceo Parker, Bernie Worrell, and Steve Arrington (of Slave) and even folks such as Mike D (of the Beasie Boys), Marcus Miller, D’Angelo, Sheila E, Shock G (of Digital Underground) Sade’s Stuart Matthewman, and many others. Basically, many of the musicians and showmen which have defined the lineage.
Needless to say, my watching this program was like a kid in a candy store. I was in heaven. Everything they talked about and documented I remembered clearly.
The only thing that did disappoint me about it was that there was no mentions of Go-Go music, which basically came into the picture coinciding along with Hip-Hop.
The above image is a picture of the map that was displayed in this program (click image for larger view). Notice the bands Chuck Brown & The Soul Searchers, Trouble Funk and Rare Essence are showcased on the map (far right area of the map, next to the DC area). Although I was jive disappointed that Go-Go did not get mentioned the props in this program that it should have (especially knowing that it was done by Nelson George and Quest Love), I should at least be happy that they placed it on the map… I guess.
Rest In Peace, William “Bunny Rugs” Clarke of Third World
KINGSTON, Jamaica — William ‘Bunny Rugs’ Clarke former lead singer of the popular band Third World has died.
Clarke who would have turned 66 on Thursday, February 6, had been in intensive care for some time.
According to Colin Leslie, a close friend of the singer, Bunny Rugs passed away at 11:00 pm Sunday at his home in Orlando, Florida. He was released from the Intensive Care Unit of an Orlando hospital last week after two weeks of treatment for leukemia.
He missed a number of engagements linked with the celebration of Third World’s 40th anniversary last year but it was generally felt that he would have recovered enough to return to Jamaica this month.
Clarke was born in Mandeville and replaced ‘Prilly’ Hamiltion as lead singer for the band in 1976. His first album with the band was ‘96 degrees in the Shade’ but is best known for the hits ‘Now that we found Love’ an O’Jays original, and ‘Try Jah Love’. And of course, my all time favorite, “Committed”.

A Sneak Peek from The Jack of All Trades
Those of you who may know of Kendall from such go-go bands, such as Fatal Attraction, FAze2 and LOUD, are already aware of the different areas of music talent that he possesses.
Well, it looks like 2014 is the year the Jack of All Trades is now embarking in an even newer direction. A solo project.
